Critical Reflection Questions

 1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

I used many music video conventions throughout my music video. Music videos tend to include many long shots, close ups and mid shots. This is to create emphasis on the artist, location and emotions. During my music video, I included close ups and mid shots to create emphasis on different aspects of my music video. The costumes vary between each R&B songs music video. In most, the actor/singer will wear fashionable clothing. In my music video, i dressed my actor up in a brand name vest so that she could look fashionable. In rhythm and blues music videos, the lighting will either be three point coming from natural light sources or or lowkey with a grey/sepia scale. In my music video i used natural lighting throughout my music video except for when we were shooting in the dark for 2 scenes and when we used lowkey lighting and changed the scale to gray. My music video did represent the social group of people who are depressed/sad due to relationships. My music video was meant to represent a girl who was sad due to a failed relationship and that's the social group that i meant to represent.

2.  How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed in real media?

My product engaged with the audience by singing to the audience. In my music video, i directed my actor to sing the lyrics. Singing the lyrics will engage the audience because t will cause the audience to actually want to sing along with the actor. My music video would be distributed on Youtube and social media such as Twitter and Instagram.

3.  How did your production skills develop throughout this product?

Throughout this product, i got much more experience being a director and creator. I learned more about which camera angles look best in certain situations. I also learnt more about lighting. I also learnt more about how much shoots you have to take to get the perfect product. My editing skills also got much better. I learned how to edit music into IMovie. Editing the music into iMovie took a long amount of time and producing this product allowed me to get better at doing it.

4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

I integrated the use of technology by using many different devices and software to film this project. First, I used and IPhone 11 to film the project. I sent the videos from the iPhone 11 to my macbook and used Imovie to edit the video. I got sound samples from YouTube by having my computer record the sound through the microphone. I also used I-movie’s software to add transitions to the video, clip the scenes, add sound effects, etc.
