Filming Blog for my Music Video

Image
Filming Blog I started to film my music video on November 28th. The star of my music video was one of my close friends, Emily Fleurenor. For my music video, I provided all of the props and costumes. I filmed my music video on my iPhone 11 camera. When I was filming my music video, I didn’t really do things in order. I filmed each scene for 1 minute so that when editing, I could pick and choose which scenes to use without having to worry about length. I did about 7 different scenes in total. Four out of seven of the scenes were filmed at my clubhouse. Two of the scenes were filmed inside of my mothers car. And the last scene was filmed by a tree outside of my house. We encountered a few problems while filming. For starters, we started to film at around 5pm. We thought that we would have enough time to get everything filmed with sunlight but, the sun sets at around 6pm. Therefore, we had to film a few scenes with no sunlight, and I had to use my flash so that my actor would be visib...

Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
I am doing a music video for the song redbone by Childish Gambino. Scene 1: This scene will be 10 seconds long. The scene will first start with a zoom in of the actors posture and facial expression. This scene will then be a close up. Then the screen will go back and forth from the video to black (to match the beat of the song) until the beat drops. The actor will then start singing the lyrics once they start. Scene 2: In this scene the actor will be in a bed. The actor will be singing the lyrics and it will be a mid shot and from an high angle. This scene will last 6 seconds.  Scene 3: In this scene, it will be a close up of text messages on a phone. The text messages will show her partner lying to her and telling her that he didn't make it home because of work buts its a lie. It will be a close up of the phone and it will last for about 4 seconds. Scene 4: In this scene the actor will be leaning against the wall with one foot on the wall. The acor will be facing away from the cam...

Planning For my Music Video

Image
I will be doing a music video for the song Redbone by Childish Gambino. Props For this music video, i will be using multiple props. I will be using a car as prop. The car will be used in the scene where the actor is depressed and sitting in her car. I will also be using a phone as a prop. Then phone will display text messages between the actor and her partner. Another prop that will be used is a bottle. The bottle will be thrown in a scene. Costumes I am doing a music video to a r&b song. Since it's in the r&b genre, the costumes will be regular/ casual attire. My actor will be wearing jeans and a t-shirt in most scenes. The actor will also wear minimal jewelry, like earrings and a necklace. My actor will also be wearing regular tennis shoes (vans) as shoes during most scenes. Schedule On 11/12/2020, I wrote my intro blog for my music video. On 11/14/2020,  I researched the conventions for my music videos genre. On 11/15/2020, I will start planning for my music video....

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
I have decided to do my music video for the song red bone. The song Red-Bone by Childish Gambino is in the R&B genre of music. The song is slow and has a soft/medium beat. Most times within a R&B song the music video goes along with what the singer is singing.  But sometimes, the director will make the video have no correlation with the words. Typically within R&B music videos, the setting follows the narrative. The set is usually in a location where it is bare and the amount of objects in the setting is minimal, unless the narrative for the song calls for more things. This allows the audience to concentrate on the artist and it shows that the artist is significant in the video. The costumes vary between each R&B songs music video. In most, the actor/singer will wear fashionable clothing. For example in men R&B songs they will wear : designer shoes, men’s jeans, baseball caps, etc. They also wear jewelry  but the jewelry is less subtle and low key jewelry u...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
I am actually very excited for this project, especially since its a music video. For my music video, I will not be working with anyone. I choose to work by myself because I actually do better by myself. I don't like having to rely on people to do things. So, I much rather do them by myself. When I work by myself, I get to choose my own pace and times to do things. I also don't have to incorporate other factors into my work, which I would have to do if I was working with someone. I also get to produce the video however I want. I am incorporating someone in AICE media into my video though. The actor in my video is going to be Emily. I choose her to be my actor because she is a close friend and she also lives close to me. I'm choosing to do the song red-bone. The song was sung by Childish Gambino. His real name is Donald Glover. He actually wrote the song himself as well, only with a few tweaks from his label. He even played the drums in the background of the song and the ...

Critical Reflection Questions

Creative Critical Reflection Conventions 1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? I used many advertising conventions within my advertisement. I used the technical convention of lighting to highlight my product when i was doing a close up on the product. I also used the technical convention, lighting, to show to change from a "sad and musty" home to a "happy and clean" home. I used the technical convention of sound for the music as well. When I introduced the product, the music got very upbeat and drums started to play. This would cause the audience to want to look up or pay attention while I was showcasing my product. I also used the technical convention of sound in my voice. Once I introduced the product, i made my voice very high to show a shift in mood. I also ...

My Commercial

My Commercial I enjoyed the process of making this commercial. The planning, the filming, and the editing was very amusing and I learned a lot. There are a few things I would have done differently though. For starters, I would have started filming earlier. Maybe on the 28th instead of on the 31st. Secondly, I would have been more professional while filming. the results could have been a little bit better if I was. Since i was filming with one of my close friends,  we were laughing a lot and making jokes while filming. I also wish I wrote down all the things i needed to do while filming. There were a few things that I forgot to do and if i wrote them down then I most likely wouldn't have forgotten. But, I learned a lot. I learnt that the filming process is a much longer process that I thought. When filming, you have to do so much takes so that the scene can be perfect. Also, you have to set up a lot of stuff and cut every-time a mistake is made. The editing process is much lon...

Editing Blog: Putting it all together

Image
Editing Blog  To edit my commercial, i used iMovie. iMovie is such an amazing app so the editing process wasn't very difficult. I first had to offload all the clips from my phone to the computer. I used airdrop to transfer the videos from my phone to the computer. Once I did that, I aligned all of the scenes into the order that they should be in. Aligning the scenes took some time because I had to cut some of the scenes. It also took some time to fit all of the scenes into the 30 second time frame but i was able to do it. After doing that, i edited the scenes. I made some of the scenes black and white. I also made some of the scenes very bright to add the effect that the product makes the environment better. Next, i added transitions. I used multiple transitions but they were fast so i'm not sure if its very noticeable. Next, i did the voice over. It took quite some time to complete the voice over because I had to keep re-doing it.  It took about 7 tries until the voice ...

Filming Blog

Filming blog On October 31st i filmed my commercial. The star of my commercial was one of my close friends, Miesha Crooks. She came over to my house and we started filming at around 2:30. I provided the costumes for all the scenes and the props such as the humidifier and the air fresher.  To film, I used my iPhone 11 camera. The first scene was filmed at my door. We encountered a problem because her little sister wanted to be in the commercial so she jumped into our shoots. But, we fixed the problem by telling her that she was a co-director. We finally got the perfect take for scene 1 after 6 tries.  I filmed this scene as a long shot scene and I slightly panned the camera but its not very noticeable. For scene 2, it was filmed in a bedroom on a bed. We encountered a problem with lighting because the scene was meant to be dark but my phone wasn't able to capture what was happening if i closed the blinds. So, we had to open the blinds a bit to shoot scene 2 even thought t...
